Project Spotlight: A Complete Landscape Renovation

One of our most rewarding projects recently involved a complete landscape overhaul for a homeowner who envisioned a fuller, more colorful yard with plenty of curb appeal. Here's how we turned their dream into reality despite some unique challenges.

The Vision

Our client wanted to replace their outdated, sparse landscape with one that felt lush and inviting, with bursts of color and texture to enhance their home’s charm. A particularly sentimental element of the project was a mature camellia bush given to them by their mother. They asked us to make it a central feature of the new design.

The Challenges

This transformation came with significant hurdles:

• Clay Soil Issues: Beneath the topsoil, heavy clay retained water, causing poor drainage and root rot in the original plants.
• Depth and Drainage: We removed 10 inches of clay soil and rebuilt the beds 15 inches higher with a well-draining soil mix.
• Camellia Preservation: The camellia needed careful relocation to ensure it remained healthy while becoming the centerpiece of the front walkway.

The Process

We began by removing struggling plants and excavating the clay-laden soil. Key steps included:

• Soil Replacement: A custom soil blend ensured optimal drainage and nutrients for new plants.
• Elevated Beds: Raised beds resolved drainage problems and added depth to the design.
• Camellia Relocation: We carefully replanted the cherished camellia, surrounding it with vibrant, complementary plants to highlight its beauty.
